The Star Inn, Porkellis
A warm welcome to The Star Inn, Porkellis, a village pub and restaurant with a history that dates back to 1707.
We are located in the heart of Porkellis and ideally situated mid-way between the towns of Helston, Redruth and Falmouth on the edge of the Lizard Peninsula.
About The Star Inn, Porkellis
There are records of Porkellis dating as far back as 1286. Porkellis was built on tin streaming and mining and at its peak in the 19th Century the village had 278 permanent residents, 83 of whom worked in the mining industry. By the 1890’s following the closure of the Basset & Grylls mine, there were just 35 miners left. Yet, the village was still thriving with a Wesleyan Chapel, The Church of St Christopher, three shops, a Post Office, a cobbler, a blacksmith, a whealwright and two pubs; The Star Inn and The Fifteen Bells. Both pubs were renowned for their out-of-hours carousing and on Christmas Day 1895, PC Roberts discovered the then landlord of The Star Inn, William Jewell, quenching the thirst of the ‘travelling choir’ at 8.30am.
The history of The Star Inn, Porkellis dates back to 1707. The current building was built in the early 1900’s and has been extensively refurbished in a contemporary style.
Food and Drink
Whether you looking to enjoy a drink or join us for lunch or dinner, we look forward to seeing you soon.
Being in Cornwall, we have access to great producers and wherever we can we use local ingredients in our menu; sourcing our fresh meat from Dales Family Butchers in Helston, our fresh fish from Seabourne Fish in Penryn and our fruit and vegetables from Westcountry in Falmouth.
We have a great selection of beers, wines and spirits including well known Cornish brands and lesser known local and artisan producers.
Sunday Roast
The highlight of the week is our Sunday Roast, which we serve family style both at lunch and dinner.
We serve locally sourced meats alongside a vegan alternative with freshly prepared vegetables that are cooked to order.
